OM System OM-1
The rebirth of Olympus. The OM-1 proves Micro Four Thirds still has a place, offering speed and durability that full-frame cameras struggle to match at this size.
OM System OM-1: The Micro Four Thirds Evolution
Pros
- First-ever Stacked M4/3 sensor
- IP53 weather sealing
- Incredible Live ND and computational features
Cons
- 20MP resolution feels dated to some
- Still a smaller sensor than APS-C/Full Frame
OM System OM-1: Speed and Durability
The OM-1 is the first camera released under the OM System brand, carrying on the heritage of Olympus with a major technological leap. It features a new 20MP Stacked BSI Live MOS sensor that significantly improves speed and low-light performance.
Computational Photography
Where OM System truly shines is in its computational features. Tools like Live ND (which simulates long exposures without filters) and Handheld High Res Shot (delivering 50MP images) make the OM-1 a versatile powerhouse for outdoor and nature photography.
Built for the Elements
With an IP53 rating, the OM-1 offers some of the best weather sealing in the industry. It can be used in pouring rain or dusty environments where other cameras would need to be put away.
Performance
The new sensor and engine allow for blistering speeds of up to 50fps with C-AF and 120fps with fixed focus. The autofocus system is significantly improved over the E-M1 Mark III, with excellent subject recognition for birds, cars, and animals.
Verdict
The OM-1 proves that Micro Four Thirds is far from dead. It offers a level of speed, portability, and durability that is hard to match in larger sensor systems, making it a top choice for wildlife and adventure photographers.
