Fujifilm X-T5

★★★★4.6/5.0

Fujifilm returns to its roots with the photography-first X-T5. The 40MP sensor is class-leading for APS-C, delivering immense detail. While the autofocus isn't quite at Sony/Canon levels for tracking fast action, the shooting experience and color science remain unmatched.

Fujifilm X-T5 Review: Photography First

Pros

  • Classic dial-based controls
  • 40MP APS-C sensor details
  • Excellent film simulations
  • Compact and lightweight body

Cons

  • Autofocus tracking lags behind Sony/Canon
  • Buffer fills up quickly with high-res files
  • Base ISO starts at 125 (better) but noise at high ISO

Introduction

Fujifilm listened. After the mixed reception of the X-T4 (which tried too hard to be a hybrid video camera), the X-T5 returns to its roots. It's smaller, lighter, and brings back the "photography first" philosophy that made the X-T1 and X-T2 legends.

Design

The tilt screen is back! Street photographers rejoice. The dedicated dials for ISO, Shutter Speed, and Exposure Compensation make shooting a tactile experience. It connects you to the process of making an image.

Performance

The 40MP sensor (same as XH2) resolves an incredible amount of detail. Landscape photographers will love this. However, the high pixel density means you need the newest XF lenses to get the most out of it. Older glass might struggle to resolve 40MP.

Verdict

If you love the process of taking photos, you will love the X-T5. It's not the fastest sport camera, but it has the most heart.
