The Only 2 Lenses You Need for Travel

By Lumina Editorial

The Trap

We've all done it. We pack the wide zoom, the telephoto zoom, the fast prime, the macro lens... and then we end up using one lens for 90% of the trip because changing lenses while walking through a crowded market is a nightmare.

The Holy Duo

1. The Fast Standard Zoom (24-70mm equiv)

This is your bread and butter. It covers wide landscapes and tight portraits. Ideally, get something with a constant f/2.8 aperture for night shots. Recommendation: Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 (APS-C) or Sony 20-70mm f/4 (Full Frame).

2. The Bright Prime (35mm or 50mm equiv)

For dinner, dark streets, and environmental portraits. A small f/1.4 or f/1.8 prime forces you to slow down and compose. Recommendation: Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 or Sony 35mm f/1.8.

Leave the Telephoto at Home?

Unless you are going specifically for wildlife, yes. Crop in post. Modern sensors have plenty of resolution. Enjoy the trip, don't burden yourself with gear.
